Mary Fitzgerald Jones

Mary Fitzgerald Jones, 92, of Waynesboro went to be with the Lord on Thursday, May 18, 2023 at the Retreat in Fishersville.

Mary was born May 24, 1930 in Tye River, VA to the late James I. Fitzgerald and the late Malisia D. Fitzgerald. She was the last surviving family member of her immediate family.

Mary was a graduate of the class of 1948 from Wilson High School. She retired from DuPont after 22 years of service, a member of Waynesboro First Baptist Church and a charter member of Alpha Sigma. Gardening, working with flowers, and spending time with her grandchildren were a few of her favorite hobbies.

In addition to her parents,she was preceded in death by her husband, Russell “Buck” Jones, sisters: Sadie Gowen, Hazel Tucker, Dorothy Dresky, Marguerite Burnett and Maxine Gabbertt; half-sisters, Idelle Thompson, Margie Page; brothers: Clark Fitzgerald and J. Carl Fitzgerald; half-brother, Archie Fitzgerald (Tice), and the late father of her children, William Harvey; son, Kenneth “Kenny” Harvey and a daughter-in-law, Tina Harvey.

Mary is survived by her children, Edward Harvey, Kathy Perdue and her husband, Billy, Shelby Alexander and her husband, Doug, and Tammie Larew; grandchildren, Kenneth Caleb Harvey, Justin Harvey, Travis Woodson, Jordan Meadows and her husband, Zach, Kasey Perdue, Brenner Perdue, Phillip Harvey, Eric Harvey, Tad Alexander, Michael Snead, Jacob Larew and Edward Larew; 12 great grandchildren; as well as several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, May 21, 2023 from 4pm until 6pm at Charlton and Groome Funeral Home.

A funeral service will be conducted on Monday, May 22, 2023 at 1pm at Charlton and Groome Funeral Home.Burial to follow in the mausoleum at Augusta Memorial Park.
