James "Jimmy" Eugene Cook
James Eugene "Jimmy" Cook, 74, of Dayton, passed away on Saturday, July 26, 2025 at his home.
He was born on April 29, 1951 and was a son of the late Galen L. and Bernice Arlene (Huffer) Cook.
Jimmy worked for the City of Harrisonburg and operated heavy equipment. He served his country in the US Army. As a member of the Dayton American Legion, he played a role in honoring many of the veterans in the area that have been laid to rest. JImmy loved to hunt, help build houses and trading cars.
James was united in marriage to Cynthia (Michael) Cook who survives.
James is also survived by two children, Wesley Cook & girlfriend Kara and Melissa Miller & husband Brent; two brothers, Timothy Cook and Tom Cook, Sr.; two grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews also survive.
In addition to his parents, Jimmy was preceded in death by a son, Jason Cook.
The Dayton American Legion will provide military honors at 6:00 PM on Wednesday, July 30, 2025 at the Johnson Funeral & Cremation Service Chapel in Bridgewater. Friends may pay respects of anytime on Wednesday.
The family wishes to express their appreciation to Gentiva Hospice, especially nurse Lorna, neighbors, Marianda Shiplet and Hannah Pierce for their care for Jimmy.
