Winona Huffer Wimer

Winona Huffer Wimer, 97, of Mt. Crawford, passed away on Friday, May 10, 2024, at Bridgewater Retirement Home. A daughter of the late David G. and Christina (Sheets) Huffer. She was born September 21, 1926 in Augusta County.

Winona was a lifetime and dedicated member of the Summit church of the Brethren, and was the oldest living member. She was a devoted stay at home Mom and truly committed to the responsibilities of her family. She was a graduate of North River High School class of 1944.

On April 20, 1946 she was united in marriage to Denson A. Wimer. They shared 68 years of marriage together until his death on June 24, 2014.

She is survived by three children, Sandra "Kaye" Estep of Harrisonburg, Carole Ann Albert and husband, Jack, of Kernersville, N.C., Denson "Denny" A. Wimer, Jr. and wife, Mary Jane, of Waynesboro; one granddaughter, April Estep Gordon and husband, Clay; two grandsons, Michael and Matthew Wimer; two great-grandchildren, Lillie and Coleman Gordon.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Julian S. and Arland E. Huffer; son-in-law, Leonard W. Estep, Jr. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

A memorial service will be held at 2 PM on Tuesday, May 14, 2024, at the Summit Church of the Brethren, with Pastors Tim Craver and Russ Barb officiating. The family will greet friends after the service in the social hall. There will be no family visitation at the funeral home, and the casket will remain closed.
