Williiam James Lowdermilk
William “Bill” James Lowdermilk, 75, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 29, 2024, at his home in Waynesboro, VA. Bill was born in Waynesboro on April 3, 1949. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Monena Lowdermilk, also of Waynesboro. Bill is survived by his loving wife, Brenda Southall Lowdermilk; son, William J. Lowdermilk and wife, Wendy; stepdaughter, Donna Davis and husband, Ike; stepson, Robbie Southall and wife, Kim; brother, John Lowdermilk and wife, Betty; sister, Sarah ElAyoubi and husband, Hassan; sister, Amy Payne and husband, Mark; and many cousins, grandchildren, nephews, and a niece.
Bill graduated from Waynesboro High School and studied forestry at Dabney S. Lancaster Community College. Bill entered into the Army in the early 70’s and served much of his time in Vietnam. He was honorably discharged in 1975.
Bill was an entrepreneur and spent 40 plus years in the building industry, beautifying Augusta County with his homes. He shared his knowledge and expertise with anyone who wanted to learn.
Bill was a member of the Boiling Springs Rod & Gun Club since 1999. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He mentored many young men, women, and children. Bill enjoyed seeing a young person kill their first deer or catch that big trout. He had great love for animals, but especially loved his hunting dogs. He raised and trained a lot of good hunting dogs. Many men loved a good hunt with Bill and his dogs. These dogs had a special place in Bill’s heart.
A Celebration of Life will be conduced at 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 4, 2024 in the chapel of McDow Funeral Home. Burial will be private.
