William Shickel Grady
William "Bill" Shickel Grady, 81, of Dayton, passed away on Friday, August 9, 2024, at his home.
He was born on November 15, 1942, and was the son of the late William H. and Ida (Shickel) Grady.
Bill retired from Riddleberger Brothers in 2005. He was a member of Montezuma Church of the Brethren. He was drafted into the US Army in 1964, where he served in Co C 26th Inf Reg during the Vietnam War. Bill earned the Vietnam Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Combat Infantryman's Badge, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Expert (Rifle M-14) Marksman (Rifle M-14) and Sharpshooter (45 Pistol). While in Vietnam he was the Radio Telephone Operator for his unit and was honorably discharged in 1966. He was a proud life member of the Myers Hodges VFW Post #8644 in Bridgewater (where he was the 1st member from the Vietnam War) and loved going to the Army reunions with the Blue Spaders. Bill was a life member of both the Bridgewater Volunteer Fire Company and Clover Hill Fire & Rescue. He was active in the Bridgewater Steam and Gas Club, collected Massey Harris tractors and enjoyed hunting.
Bill was united in marriage on November 4, 1966 to Louise (Long) Grady.
Surviving in addition to his wife are his children, Lenford Grady & wife Karen, and Wilamena Harback & husband David; grandchildren, Nicole Grady, Alannah Harback, Justin Grady, and Liam Harback.
A service celebrating Bill's life will be held on Wednesday, August 14, 2024, at 11:00 AM at Johnson Funeral and Cremation Service in Bridgewater with David Kite and Ike Diehl officiating. Burial will follow at Beaver Creek Church Cemetery with military rites by the Myers Hodges VFW Post #8644.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, August 13, 2024, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the funeral home.
