William "Bill" Russell

June 4, 1957 - July 6, 2024

William Frank “Bill” Russell, III, 67, of Strasburg, VA passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, July 6, 2024, at Berkley Medical Center, Martinsburg, WV. 

Mr. Russell was born in Winchester, VA on June 4, 1957, a son of the late William Frank Russell, Jr. and the late Nancy Lou Robinson Russell of Clearbrook, VA.  Bill was a 1975 graduate of James Wood High School, and attended Grace Bible School in Grand Rapids, MI.  Bill was married to Lynn Darlene Walling Russell on November 26, 1983, in Madison, NJ surrounded by family and friends.  They were married for 40 plus years. Bill worked in the building supply industry including Moore’s Building Supply, The Lumberyard, and Valley Lumber for over 35 years.  He then worked for Kraft Heinz for nine years.  Bill had a love for many sports, enjoyed playing and coaching softball up into his 40’s. Bill retired in 2018 and enjoyed taking care of their dogs while his wife Lynn worked outside the home as a caregiver.  Bill loved his family and friends and will be dearly missed.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a niece Jami Russell, a nephew Thomas Walling, a brother-in-law Wayne Walling, along with his father and mother-in-law. 

Survivors include his loving wife Lynn D. Russell and their three dogs KiKi, Dee, and Gee; two sons William Frank Russell, IV (Sarah) and their two dogs Bella and Sparky, Shaun O’Day Russell (Becky Venanzio) and their three children Gabriel, Maxwell, and Kattryn along with their three dogs, Piper, Lola, and Talia; his sisters Brenda Simpson (Jack), Esther Cobb, Belinda “Jeanne” Russell and a brother David Russell.  Bill was also survived by several brothers and sisters-in-law, many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and numerous cousins.

A funeral service for Mr. Russell will be held at Stover Funeral Home at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, July 11, 2024, at Stover Funeral Home with Leland Collins officiating.  Mr. Russell will be laid to rest privately.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. 

The family suggests that expressions of sympathy be in the form of memorial contributions to the American Cancer Society, American Heart Association or the Frederick County American Little League.
