William "Bill" Charles Bigelow

November 9, 1951 - September 14, 2025

Dr. William “Bill” Charles Bigelow, 73, of Verona, Virginia passed away on Sunday, September 14, 2025 at the Shenandoah House in Fishersville after his courageous battle with lung cancer.
Bill was born in Oak Ridge, Tennessee on November 9, 1951. He was the son of the late Dr. Robert and Marlys Bigelow. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Robert Bigelow Jr., a sister, Mary (Bigelow) Huntoon, and a grandson, Benjamin Bigelow.
He is survived by his three children – Robert “Bob” William Bigelow, his wife Kaitlin and their two children, Marlys and Bengtson; Matthew “Matt” Steven Bigelow and his wife, Rose and their three children, Kathryn, Emma, and Luke; and Amy Kathleen (Bigelow) Wise and her husband, Reed and their daughter, Lea. He is also survived by his sister Anne E. Bigelow of Atlanta, Georgia, brother Dr. James Bigelow and his wife, Mary Ann of Missoula, Montana, and many nieces and nephews.
Bill was a member of the Black Horse Troop at Culver Summer Camps in Culver, Indiana from 1966-1968. He was very fond of the camp and the area and would later send all three of his children to Culver Summer Camps and visit almost every year thereafter.
He graduated from Oak Ridge High School, received his undergraduate degree from Transylvania University, Doctor of Dentistry from the University of Tennessee Health Science Center, Memphis, and his Fellowship in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery from the University Tennessee, Knoxville. He also spent three years in the Navy, serving at Camp LeJune, North Carolina.
Bill was hard-working and dedicated. He spent over 37 years working as an oral surgeon, where he was known for his humor and dedication to his patients, calling them every night. Despite his many responsibilities, he always made time for his family, his passions, and his faith.
He was an active member of his community – enjoying a game of golf whenever possible. He served on the Board of Directors for The Legacy at North Augusta, a member of the Virginia Board of Dentistry, and volunteered for ten years at Mission of Mercy in Wise, Virginia with his son, Bob.
Bill had a great sense of humor and was a man of kindness, generosity, compassion, and humility. He left a lasting impact on everyone who knew him. He deserves to have his long years of fatherly love honored and he was especially fond of all of his grandchildren. He will be dearly missed by all.
