Welty Preston Craun

Welty Preston Craun, 89, of Grottoes, passed away on Friday, January 17, 2025 at his home.

He was born on April 13, 1935, and was a son of the late Charles and Virginia (Wood) Craun.

Welty attended Victory Fellowship Church and proudly served his country in the United States Air Force. After his military service, he returned home to work on the family farm. Later, he built a career at Truck Enterprises, where he worked for over 20 years before retiring. Never one to stay idle, Welty spent nearly two decades after retirement driving tour coaches, exploring the East Coast from Florida to Canada, and sharing countless journeys with others along the way.

Welty was united in marriage to Christine Sue Craun, who survives.

Welty is also survived by three children, Phyllis (Tim) Armentrout, Susan Messenger, and Linda (Jeff) Lugar; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and two nieces.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Martha Wease Craun; son, Richard Stewart Craun; a grandson, John Phillip Armentrout; sister, Helen Beckwith; and son-in-law, Greg Messenger.

The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 PM Friday, Jan. 24, 2025, at Johnson Funeral and Cremation Service in Grottoes.

A service celebrating Welty's life will be held at 11 AM Saturday, Jan. 25th, at the funeral home, with Pastor Tim McAvoy officiating. Burial will follow at Edgewood Cemetery.
