Sylvia Harris

November 21, 1940 - January 5, 2024

Sylvia Eloise Craig Harris, 83, of Waynesboro, went to be with the Lord on Friday, January 5, 2024 at her home with her family by her side.

Sylvia was born on November 21, 1940 in Waynesboro to the late Clarence Wade Craig and the late Lucy Eloise Barker Craig.

Sylvia was a loving wife and mother. In her younger years she was employed at Genicom. She was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church.

Above all, she was the best wife, mom, grandma, great grandma and caregiver to her family. She was like a second mom to her grandchildren and great grandchildren, being a very influential part of their lives. She gave her love, time, and energy to support her entire family. In addition to taking care of her family, she loved watching a good movie, drinking her coffee and sitting outside on her porch. She had a very strong faith in the Lord and loved reading her spiritual daily devotions.

Sylvia will be missed beyond words. She was surrounded by her loving family in her last moments. Her memory will always be kept alive through her family.

The family would like to extend a thank you to all of our many family members and friends who have offered so much support and helped us through this difficult time, also to the Hospice of the Shenandoah, and the staff at Augusta Health. A special thanks to Charlton and Groome Funeral Home for the respectful and dignified manner in which they have taken care of Mom and Karen, and helped our family navigate through this past week.

In addition to her parents, Sylvia was preceded in death by a daughter, Karen Leigh Harris on December 31, 2023; her mother and father-in-law, Frank and Vivian Harris; her sisters, Brenda Pitchford and Libby Carter; her brothers, Guy Craig and Wade Craig; special sister-in-law, Irma Craig and brothers-in-law, Bob Harris and Dean Harris.

Sylvia is survived by her husband of 64 years, Ronald Wayne Harris; her daughters, Shanda Harris Fitzgerald and her husband, Paul of Stuarts Draft, and Christina Harris Fauber of Waynesboro; grandchildren, Drew Harris Fitzgerald, Alex Craig Fitzgerald, Evan Ward Fitzgerald and Braelin Marie Fauber; great grandchildren, Olivia Mae Fitzgerald and Della Sylvie–Kate Fitzgerald; sister, Judy Craig Fisher of Waynesboro; brother in-law, Rudy Harris and sister in-laws Debbie Harris and Janet Harris and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and neighbors she loved dearly.

Services and interment, conducted by Pastor Billy Coffey, will be private. Serving as Active Pallbearers will be Drew Fitzgerald, Alex Fitzgerald, Evan Fitzgerald, Braelin Fauber, Dwight Craig, Keith Pitchford, Jr., Greg Harris, Rick Harris and Rudy Harris.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude’s Hospital.
