Sylvia Darlene Carter, 62, of Staunton, Virginia, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, February 6, 2026, at her residence.She was born on November 14, 1963 in Lynchburg, VA.Known for her immense kindness and a gentle spirit that she extended to everyone she met, Sylvia possessed a rare gift - her hugs could truly make anyone feel deeply loved and seen. Her days were filled with prayer and the joy of serving her family. She was devoted to teaching her children to love, to be kind, and to be guided by the Lord.Sylvia was preceded in death by her father, Eddie L. Carter of Forest, VA.Her memory will be cherished and kept alive by her devoted lifelong partner, Bryan Woodward of Staunton, VA; her mother, Janice Carter of Toledo, OH; her children, Caleb Carter of Staunton, VA, and Candace Hogan (Jesse) of Pittsburgh, PA; her siblings, Sharon Luther (Ken) of Kernersville, NC and Forrest Carter (Donna) of Midlothian, VA; her four grandsons; her nieces and nephews, Derek, Sarah, Mark, and Zoe, and her dear cousin, Latisha Campbell of NJ.Sylvia’s life was a testament to the power of a kind heart. While she will be greatly missed, her family takes comfort in knowing she is at peace in her eternal home.A graveside service will be held at 3:00 PM on Friday, February 13, 2026, at New Hope Baptist Church Cemetery in Vera, Virginia. The family will receive friends at Henry Funeral Home in Staunton from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM, prior to departing for the cemetery.Henry Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.
