Suzanne D. Bowers

Suzanne Dunaway Bowers, 77, passed away on Monday, May 13, 2024, at Brookdale Senior Living in Staunton.She was born on September 3, 1946, in Richmond to the late Howard Elliott and Ruth Lucille Crumley Dunaway.Suzanne earned her bachelor’s of science degree in nursing from the University of Virginia in 1968. She had a career in public health, home health, and also taught nursing at LaGrange College while in Georgia.She was a vibrant soul with a deep appreciation for music, literature, and family. Suzanne approached life with a deep sense of love and dedication to her loved ones. She always remembered birthdays, anniversaries, and other special occasions, ensuring all milestones were celebrated with warmth and affection.As a native of Virginia, she embodied the spirit of the state – the Old Dominion was ingrained in her soul. She was known for her love of entertaining others - lively Kentucky Derby parties complete with mint juleps, she created unforgettable moments. She had a wonderful sense of humor and cherished it in others as much as in herself.She is survived by her husband, Bruce Daniel Bowers; her daughter, Elizabeth Allison Bowers Willey and her husband, Scott; her sister, Barbara Jean Dunaway Bowers, and her husband, Michael Bowers; her sister-in-law, Lynn Tucker; and a granddaughter, Sarah Eloise Willey.A funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM on Monday, May 20, 2024, at Trinity Episcopal Church in Staunton with the Reverend William “AJ” Heine officiating.
