Shirley Rankin

Shirley Rankin, 86, of Lyndhurst, passed away on Sunday, September 14, 2025 at River Edge Rehabilitation and Nursing in Waynesboro. She was born in Augusta County on December 21, 1938, a daughter of the late Albert B. Smith, Sr. and Nellie Floyd Smith.

Shirley worked as a caregiver helping take care of her late husband and many nieces and nephews. She attended Elk Horn Tabernacle in Elk Horn, KY. Dancing, cleaning, fishing, watching wrestling and listening to her favor artist, Elvis Presley were a few of her favorite hobbies. She also greatly enjoyed spending time with her stepson, Gary, going shopping, going out to eat, and fishing.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Conrad Rankin; sister, Betty Fitzgerald and her husband, J.R.; Sister-in-law, Pansy A. Smith; Step-son, Neil Rankin; step-daughter-in-law, Diane Rankin; nieces, Teresa Ann Smith, Sharon Fitzgerald, and Rachel Brown; nephew, Thomas Milton Smith; and great nephew, C.O. Alford, Jr.

Survivors include step-son, Gary Rankin and wife, Marie; step-grandchildren, Dana and Jenna Rankin; brothers, Donald D. Smith and Albert B. Smith Jr.; niece, Esther Smith; nephews: David Smith, Mike Fitzgerald, Mark Fitzgerald, and Chris Smith and wife, Melinda; great nieces and nephews: Jessica Stevens and husband, Buck, Tommy Alford and wife, Lacy; Johnathan Smith, Ashleigh Smith, Ben Smith, Antoine Smith, Justice Smith, Moses Smith, Josh Ewing, Jacob, and Ellinana Smith. Shirley shared a special bond with, C-MO “CO” Alford, who she cherished like family.

Shirley will be buried with her parents at Riverview Cemetery in Waynesboro.
