Shirley "Pearson" Jo Yarborough

August 14, 1948 - September 23, 2023

Shirley Jo Yarborough was born on August 14, 1948, in Fairfield County, South Carolina to Robert Lee Pearson and Frances Farrow Pearson. She was the third of ten children that God assigned this couple to parent.
Shirley attended Fairfield County Public Schools where she received her formal education. She then moved to Maryland and was united in marriage to David Yarborough. This 16-year union produced two children. Shirley was employed with the United States Postal Service for 41 years, retiring on October 31, 2009. Shirley had already begun part-time employment as a Health Aide at the ARC of Prince George’s County, which she continued until the time of her transition.
While living in Maryland, Shirley was a member of Beulah Baptist Church. After relocating, she was an active member of Mt. Salem Baptist Church in Staunton, VA until the time of her transition, serving faithfully until her health made it impossible to do so. Even in the face of failing health, she would make phone calls to check on members, and send cards and floral arrangements to the sick and/or bereaved, fulfilling her purpose and call as an encourager.
Given to a life of serving others, Shirley received numerous awards for her dedication. She enjoyed travel and assisting seniors. She also assisted her mother and siblings when needed. Some products of her life of sowing are not seen on paper or plaques but is very evident in the lives of multiple persons that she assisted through life.
Shirley is preceded in death by her parents; paternal grandparents: Jim and Gertrude Pearson; maternal grandparents: Gary and Jessie Stone; 3 brothers: Davis Lee Pearson, Stanley Eugene Pearson and Eddie Anders Pearson; and nephew: Christopher Charles Pearson.
