Shirley Jean Bartley Young
Shirley Jean Bartley Young, 75, of Grottoes, went to be with her Lord and Savior peacefully on Saturday, June 29, 2024 surrounded by her family at her home. She embraced life with a vibrant spirit and an unwavering devotion to her family, friends.
Born April 16, 1949, in Middlebrook, VA and was a daughter of the late Earl and Margaret (Berry) Bartley.
Shirley was the heart of her large family, maintaining close bonds with all six of her siblings throughout her life. Her love for her family was unparalleled, and she found great joy in spending time with her children, grandchildren, extended family members and friends. Everyone that met Shirley always uses the same word to describe her, "Sweet"! She leaves behind a legacy of love and will be dearly missed.
Shirley was a member of Path Church (formerly Potters House Worship Center) in Harrisonburg. Her faith was central to her life. One of her favorite scriptures was Psalm 23.
Shirley was united in marriage to Abraham David "Dave" Young, who preceded her in death.
Shirley is survived by two daughters, Patricia and Timothy Miller, and Robin and Tyson Skievaski; brothers, Joe Bartley, Wayne Bartley and wife, Sarah, Mike Bartley and wife, Patricia, David Bartley and wife, Debbie, and Earl Bartley; a sister, Kathy Wright and husband, Robert; grandchildren, Megan Shifflett and husband, Jeremy, Tyler Miller, Madison Lilly and husband, Andrew, and Landon Skievaski; great-grandchildren, Jackson and Gunnar Shifflett, and Steven Hinkle; Bonus Children, Deborah Young and Bob Grubb, Cindy and Temple Cash, and David Young. Bonus-grandchildren, Rebecca (Pete) Tamez, Amada Young, Stacey McMannes, and Whitney Young; Bonus-great-grandchildren, Sophara, Juna, and Kalor Tamez; numerous nieces and nephews whom she adored.
In addition to her husband and parents, she is preceded in death by a grandson, Brandon Miller; brother, Charles Earl Bartley; Bonus-grandson, David I. Young.
The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 PM on Friday, July 5, 2024, at Johnson Funeral and Cremation Service in Grottoes.
A memorial service celebrating Shirley's life will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, July 6th at Path Church in Harrisonburg, with Pastors Dan and Renee Garber officiating.
