Seymour Louis Solomon
Seymour Louis Solomon Jr. of Grottoes, VA, passed away on October 31, 2024, at the age of 89. Born in Baltimore, MD, on July 20, 1935 to Semore, Sr. and Elizabeth (Poindexter) Solomon who preceded him in death. Seymour was a well-respected man within his community.
Seymour proudly served in the US Army, where he attained the rank of Sergeant, spending six years dedicated to his country. After his service, he spent 27 years at E.I. Dupont. While there, he made Supervisor and served in that capacity for 10 years. After retirement, he delved into business, becoming the owner of Video Town, a staple in the community.
Apart from his business endeavors, Seymour was deeply involved in the social fabric of Grottoes. As the first black councilman in Rockingham County, he contributed significantly to local government, serving on the Grottoes Town Council and the Parks and Recreation Board. In his spare time, Seymour's love for baseball shone through as he not only played but also managed within the Rockingham County Baseball League for three decades representing the Grottoes Cardinals.
Seymour also found purpose as the Chairman of the Zoning Appeal Board and the Board of Trustees at Mt. Moriah Methodist Church. He enjoyed years of singing and traveling with the Waynesboro Union Men's Chorus. His commitment to public service and tireless community involvement will forever be remembered.
Seymour leaves behind a lasting legacy. He is survived by his children Seymour (Kennea) Solomon III, Donna (Greg) Graber, Scott Solomon, Connie Cash; fifteen grandchildren; Eighteen great-grandchildren; a brother, Kenneth Solomon; and "The Babysitter," Pam Parr.
In addition to his parents, Seymour was preceded in death by his loving wife, Diana (Andes) Solomon; a son, Shawn Solomon; a daughter, Tina Solomon; and sisters, Sara Salmon, Sandra King, Ella Smith.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, November 5, 2024 at Johnson Funeral and Cremation Service in Grottoes with Donna Graber officiating.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Monday, November 4, 2024 at the funeral home.

Seymour's memory will be cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing him. May he rest in peace.
