Sarah Marie Smith

Sarah Marie Smith, age 79, of Upper Tract, WV, passed away on Thursday, February 22, 2024, at E.A. Hawse Health and Rehab Center in Baker, WV. She was born on May 21, 1944, in Upper Tract, WV, the daughter of the late Oliver and Florence America (Lawrence) Hedrick. On May 2, 1964, Sarah married J. Bruce Smith, who survives in Upper Tract, WV.

Sarah was a 1964 graduate of Franklin High School. She retired from Pendleton Manor, after 30 years of service in housekeeping. She was a member of Mt. Horeb United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women's Group. Sarah was a past member of Pendleton County Rescue Squad. She was a dedicated wife, mother, and grandmother, who enjoyed gardening, canning, and reading books. 

In addition to her husband, Sarah leaves behind to cherish her memory: a daughter, Ellen Turner (James) of Upper Tract, WV; 2 sons, Lynn Smith ( Dena), JB Smith (Amanda), all of Upper Tract, WV; 6 grandchildren; and 6 great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by: a brother, Paul Hedrick; and 5 sisters, Shirley Thompson, Ruby Crown, Frances Halterman, Joanna Hedrick, and Loveain Warner. 

Sarah's family will receive friends on Monday, February 26, 2024, 5-7 PM at the Basagic Funeral Home in Franklin, WV. Funeral services will be on Tuesday, February 27, 2024, at 10:00 AM, in the funeral home chapel, with Pastor David Webb and Pastor Rita Beeman officiating. Interment will be in Cherry Hill Cemetery in Upper Tract, WV. Memorials may be made to Mt.
