Sally Johnson

Sally Ellen Crabill Johnson, 82, of Strasburg, VA passed away Tuesday, June 4, 2024, at Rose Hill Health & Rehab in Berryville, VA. 

Mrs. Johnson was born in Woodstock, VA on May 31, 1942, a daughter of the late Charles Lemuel and Mary Margaret Hisey Crabill.  She was a devoted member of the Strasburg United Methodist Church where she served in many capacities.  She worked for over 20 years for Shenandoah Memorial Hospital.  She became a hairdresser at the age of 16, having apprenticed at the salon of Mary Ellen Updike in Strasburg.  Sally loved to crochet, was a devoted caregiver, and had her own catering business.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband R. Allen Johnson, the love of her life whom she married on June 3, 1962.

Survivors include her daughter Jolene K. Ryder (Keith); her granddaughter Amanda Plauger (Joshua Burroughs); her great-grandchildren Zeke A. Plauger, Lexton D. Plauger, Kyla J. Timmons, and Kyson A. Dispanet; her siblings Ralph H. Crabill and Jean Carroll; several nieces and nephews along with special friends Mary Mauck Cottrill and Wendy Delawder. 

A funeral service for Mrs. Johnson will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, June 11, 2024, at Stover Funeral Home with Rev. John Haynes, Jr. and Rev. Ralph H. Crabill officiating.  Burial will follow in Detrick Cemetery, Fort Valley, VA.  

Pallbearers will be Jake Poe, James Crabill, Nathan West, Joshua Burroughs, Willie Mitchell, and Ralph Carl Crabill.   

The family will receive friends at Stover Funeral Home from 6-8 p.m. Monday evening. 

Memorials may be made in memory of Mrs. Johnson to the American Cancer Society.
