Rudolph "Rudy" Carson Bazzrea
Rudolph Carson “Rudy” Bazzrea, 76, husband of Wanda Leigh (Jackson) Bazzrea, of Craigsville, passed away on Monday, March 24, 2025 at his residence.
Mr. Bazzrea was born in Staunton, Virginia on November 15, 1948, a son of the late Wine Gilbert “Ham” Bazzrea and Daisy Dell (Goff) Bazzrea.
Rudy was a veteran of the United States Navy, serving in Vietnam. He retired from the Staunton Correctional Center as an officer and was a volunteer with the Craigsville-Augusta Springs First Aid Crew. Rudy had a love for cooking, fishing, and watching NASCAR, and he always looked forward to traveling to the West Virginia State Fair. In addition to these passions, Rudy was also an avid politician. Above all, his greatest joy came from spending time with his family and grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Bazzrea was preceded in death by a daughter, LaWanda Lynn Bazzrea; his brother, Charles T. “Charlie” Bazzrea; and his sister-in-law, Shirley (Stuples) Bazzrea.
Surviving, in addition to his wife of 46 years, is a daughter, Rhonda Kay Riley and her husband, Ronnie Lee of Staunton; four grandchildren, Alexandra N. Bazzrea, Starla L. Bazzrea, Stephanie D. Knott and her husband, Travis, and Aaron L. Riley; three great-grandchildren, Kailey, Lydia, and Adalynn Knott; a nephew, Larry Knight and his wife, Sincha; special friends, Barb Reid and Edward Campbell; and his Navy comrade, Lyn Townsend.
A private graveside service will be held in Craigsville Community Cemetery.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Mr. Bazzrea’s dedicated caregivers for their unwavering love and compassion. A special thank you to Liz and Cindy from Sentara Hospice, as well as his VA nurses, Colleen and Barb, for their exceptional care.
