Roy J. Ramsey
CHURCHVILLE – Roy James Ramsey, 86, of Churchville, passed away Sunday (July 27, 2025) in The Legacy at North Augusta.
Born October 24, 1938 in Montebello, he was a son of the late Earl Minor Ramsey and Annie Myrtle (Layton) Ramsey. Roy was a builder for Northway Contractors in Northern Virginia for many years, and established his own business as a building contractor, retiring in 2017. Roy enjoyed hunting, fishing, and “tinkering” on the farm, and was an avid Pittsburgh Pirates and Steelers fan. He attended Jerusalem Chapel United Brethren in Christ Church.
Roy was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Belle “Polly” (Bartley) Ramsey; a sister, Mary Bryant; and three brothers, Minor, Boyd Ray and William Ramsey. Surviving are his children, Keith Ramsey and wife Cathy of Staunton, Debbie Cascario and husband Larry of Staunton, and Denise Coon and husband Rodger of Churchville; a brother, Lee Ramsey of Prince Frederick, Md.; a sister, Clara Hollifield of Newville, Pa.; eight grandchildren, Ryan Coon, Richard Ely, Rachel Roberts, Rebekah Leahy, Cory Ramsey, Natalie Cascario, Reagan Coon, and Renae Coon; five great-grandchildren, Lincoln and Quinn Roberts, Matthew and Christopher Coon and Charlotte Leahy; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A service will be held 2:00 p.m. Saturday (August 2) in Jerusalem Chapel Church, officiated by Pastor Stuart Johns. The family will receive friends at the church prior to the service beginning at 12:00 noon.
Burial will be 11:00 a.m. Monday (August 4) in Augusta Memorial Park, Fishersville. Active pallbearers will be Ryan Coon, Richard Ely, Cory Ramsey, Chandler Roberts, C. Wayne Bartley and Roy Bartley. Honorary pallbearers will be nieces and nephews.
