Ronald "Ron" Edward Shirkey

Ronald Edward "Ron" Shirkey, 77, of Bridgewater, passed away on Sunday, March 1, 2026 at Albemarle Health & Rehabilitation.

He was born on April 24, 1948 and was a son of the late Harold and Brownie (Caracofe) Shirkey.

Ron had worked for the town of bridgewater for 42 years and retired as the Assistant Town Manager. He was a member of numerous veterans and service club in the area.

Ronald was united in marriage on May 28, 1966 to Doris Diane (Fletcher) Shirkey who preceded him in death on October 15, 2018.

He is survived by his children, Jeffrey Shirkey, and Teresa Armentrout; sister, Karen Huffman and husband Tom; grandson, Tyler Armentrout; niece, Kristie Huffman; nephew, Shawn Huffman; and great nephew, Greyson Huffman.

A graveside service celebrating Ron's life will be held on Thursday, March 5, 2026 at 2:00 PM at OakLawn Cemetery with Rev Hollis Dodge officiating.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, March 4, 2026 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the Johnson Funeral & Cremation Service in Bridgewater.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Rion-Bowman VFW Post #632, 450 Waterman Drive, Harrisonburg, VA 22802.
