Ronald McClelland
Ronald Kevin McClelland of Stephens City, Virginia passed away on Thursday, October 30, 2025 at Winchester Medical Center surrounded by family.
Ron was born on February 21, 1960, in Alexandria, Virginia a son of the late Thomas Leroy McClelland and Lousie Johnson McClelland.
Ron served his community as a law enforcement officer for more than 40 years in Prince William County, Shenandoah County, Page County, and the Town of Luray. Ron began his career as an emergency dispatcher at 18 years old. He then entered the police force and throughout his tenure served in Administration, Criminal Investigations Unit, Crimes Against Children Unit, Vice and Narcotics Bureau, Violent Crimes Unit, and Homicide Investigations. He held each assignment with integrity, compassion, an unmatched work ethic and zeal for justice. He was passionate about his calling whether it was investigating a case or dressing up as Santa Claus to greet children on their way into school.
Ron found great joy in the quiet moments spent outdoors, casting a line into the water or tracking game through the woods. He often spoke of how he looked forward to the day he could share those experiences with his grandchildren. Ron also spent time on the soccer field coaching both of his daughter’s teams with enthusiasm. He mentored Boy Scouts who were pursuing the Eagle Scout rank, an accomplishment he was proud to have achieved himself. Ron loved his family dearly. He deeply loved his wife, Sue, and they cherished their time together, exploring new places and making memories.
He is survived by wife, Sue and daughters, Becky (Darrell) and Sara (Drew). Ron was a beloved “Pappy” to his grandchildren Helen Louise and Sullivan Leroy. He is also survived by brother Mark, sister Robyn (Larry), nephews, a niece, and an extended family of aunts, uncles, cousins and loved ones. Ron has also been loved and supported by a large law enforcement family. Ron was preceded in death by his twin brother Robert, his parents, and his sister-in-law Melissa.
A cause that Ron cared about throughout his career was the mental and emotional wellbeing of those on the front lines serving their community and their families. To honor this, his family requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Boulder Crest Foundation or your local police foundation.
Pallbearers are Mark McClelland, Justin McClelland, Tucker Schneider, Larry Schneider, Bow Cook, Steve Crisman, Art Goff, John Twomey. Honorary pallbearers are Darrell Stickley, Drew Davis, and Sullivan Davis.
