Rita Lou Hughes Fleisher, 84, passed away on Sunday, March 1, 2026, at her residence in Staunton.She was born on April 2, 1941, in Veager, West Virginia to the late James Harold, Sr. and Clemma Payne Hughes.Rita dedicated much of her working life to serving others. She was employed as a Psychiatric Aide at Western State Hospital in Staunton, where she provided care and compassion to those in need.Rita was a woman of strong faith and a devoted member of Calvary Baptist Church in Staunton, where she also served as a Sunday school teacher.She enjoyed crocheting, cross-stitching, and spending time at the beach.Above all, she was deeply proud of her family and was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Her family meant everything to her, and her love for them was evident in all she did.She is survived by her son, Dennis “Scott” Fleisher and his wife, Laura; her daughter, Amber Lynn Shiflett Armstrong and her husband, Dean; her son-in-law, John Birchfield; her brother-in-law, Thomas Fleisher; her sister-in-law, Connie Hughes; her grandchildren, Eric Thompson and his wife, Jessica, Kevin Thompson and his wife, Donna, Jessika Rosson (Jeremy), Nathan Armstrong (Amanda), Kameron Fleisher and his wife, Cheyenne; her great-grandchildren, Caleb Mawyer, Lucas Thompson and his wife, Veronica, McKinley Armstrong, Graeson Armstrong, Aaden Rosson, Jackson Rosson, Reid Thompson, Samuel Thompson, and Langley Thompson; numerous nieces and nephews; and other loving family and friends.In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her first husband, Joseph Edward Shiflett, Jr.; her second husband, Dennis Marvin Fleisher; her daughter, Kimberly Renee Shiflett Birchfield; and her brothers, James Harold Hughes, Jr. and Beverly Gene Hughes.A funeral will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, March 5, 2026, at Calvary Baptist Church in Staunton with Pastor Bobby Campbell officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, beginning at 10:00 AM.Interment will follow at Oak Lawn Mausoleum and Memory Gardens in Staunton.Serving as pallbearers will be Eric Thompson, Kevin Thompson, John Birchfield, Graeson Armstrong, Greg Knight, and Kameron Fleisher.
