Richard Grant Bird
Richard Grant Bird, 88, of Marlinton, West Virginia departed from this life on Sunday, March 31, 2024 at Pocahontas Memorial Hospital in Buckeye surrounded by his loving family. He was treasured as a loving and faithful husband to Julia Tyler Bird for 45 years, a compassionate father and grandfather, a good friend and teacher, and a Christian. Mr. Bird was an avid outdoorsman who was deeply attached to his farm, a martial arts expert and an individual who valued lifelong learning.
He was born August 3, 1935 in Charleston, West Virginia and was the son of the late Wilford G. Bird and Wava Evelyn (Skeen) Bird.
Mr. Bird was a graduate of the West Virginia Institute of Technology and a U.S. Army veteran who served in Korea. Professionally, he began designing information architecture systems when computers were in their infancy and took on roles of increasing responsibility. His last position was senior systems engineering analyst with Dominion Energy working on the Bath County Pumped Storage Station.
On June 2, 1979, he married Julia Tyler Bird, who survives.

And 11 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren
Mr. Bird was preceded in death by one brother, James Bird, and one great-grandson, Jacob Matthew Walker.
A “celebration of life” service will be held at the New Hope Church in Dunmore on April 6 at 11:00 AM led by Pastor Julian Rittenhouse.
