Richard Gale Thompson

Richard Gale Thompson, 86, of Grottoes, passed away on Saturday, February 22, 2025 at Augusta Health.

He was born on April 23, 1938, and was a son of the late Fred W. and Audessa M. (White) Thompson.

Richard retired from General Electric where he worked as a machinist, and had served in the United States Air Force.

Richard was united in marriage to Evelyn "Kay" (Wiley) Thompson, who survives.

Richard is also survived by his children, Richard Thompson, and Eric (Connie) Thompson; sisters, Neta Beasley, and Freda Smoot; grandchildren, Travis Henderson, Jeremy Henderson, Michael Henderson, Will Henderson, EJ Thompson, Chelsea Thompson, and Alley Mann; fourteen great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Kimberly May; daughter-in-law, Joan Thompson; brothers, Duane, Melvin, and Ralph Thompson; sisters, Jo Ann Vaught, and Margaret Davis.

The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 PM on Thursday, Feb. 27, 2025 at Johnson Funeral and Cremation Service in Grottoes.

A graveside service celebrating Richard's life will be held at 2 PM on Friday, Feb. 28th at Edgewood Cemetery, with Tony Reed officiating.
