Richard Ericsson Shelton
Richard Ericsson Shelton, Jr., 81, of Staunton, passed away peacefully on Monday, August 25, 2025, with his wife and family by his side.
Richard was born in Gastonia, North Carolina on June 14, 1944, a son of the late Richard Ericsson Shelton, Sr. and Ethelyne (Whitesides) Shelton.
Richard retired from Newport News Shipbuilding, where he served as a senior engineer. He had a lifelong love for sailing and found great joy in spending time at the beach, especially in the Outer Banks.
Richard was a deeply patriotic man, known for his unwavering love of country.
A devoted husband, father, grandfather, and brother, Richard cherished his family above all else.
Surviving, is his wife of 55 years, Fay Diane Shelton; a son, Alex Shelton and his wife, Heather of Richmond; a daughter, Beth McDorman and her husband, Gary of Staunton; four grandchildren, Lydia and Sam Shelton, and Parker and Cooper McDorman; two brothers, W. Craig Shelton and his wife, Ellen of Cumberland, MD and John Michael Shelton and his wife, Virginia of Sugarland, TX; three sisters, Teaette E. Price and her husband, Greg of Denton, MD, Elizabeth K. Sweitzer and her husband, Bob of Frostburg, MD, and Peggy J. Earnest and her husband, Daniel of Centreville, PA; and a number of nieces and nephews.
A private family gathering will be held at a later date.

Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory, 230 Frontier Drive, Staunton is in charge of his arrangements.
