Ray Matthew Pitsenbarger

November 28, 1935 - October 19, 2025

Ray Matthew Pitsenbarger, 89, of Staunton, passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 19, 2025 after a brief illness. 
Ray was born in Sugar Grove, West Virginia on November 28, 1935, a son of the late Theodore Roosevelt Pitsenbarger and Rachel Vaiden Rexrode.
Ray was an avid Amateur Ham Radio operator under the call sign of KE4NNV and a life member of the Virginia Fone Net. This was his connection to others as his sight deteriorated later in life. He was also a member of St. Paul’s Church.
He held many jobs in his lifetime. He served time in the United States Army in Germany, was employed at Kitch’n Cook’d Potato Chip Company as a route salesman, Westinghouse where he learned brazing and welding, Staunton Steam Laundry as a route salesman, Walker Manufacturing where he furthered his craft as a welder, and then finally, rain or shine, a Staunton City School Crossing Guard. 
In addition to his parents, Mr. Pitsenbarger was preceded in death by his first wife, Jerry Frances (Hash) Pitsenbarger; his second wife, Joan Bridges (Clark) Pitsenbarger; a brother, Dennis Stover Pitsenbarger; and a grandson, Michael Ray Pitsenbarger. 
Surviving, are two sons, David A. Pitsenbarger and his wife, Kim of Warner Robins, GA and Gary M. Pitsenbarger and his wife, Jennifer of Staunton; a step-son, Ricky Clark and his wife, Jane of Homer, IL; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two sisters, Thelma Jean Thompson of Maysville, WV and Wilma Rexrode of Franklin, WV; a number of nieces and nephews; and his faithful cat, Suzie.
A celebration of life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 26, 2025 in the Coffman Funeral Home Chapel.
The family will receive friends following the service. 
Burial will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Monday, October 27, 2025 in the Fox Creek Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery by Rev. William “Bill” Trice.

The family would like to thank the staff at Staunton Post Acute and Rehab, Gentiva Hospice, hospice nurse, Destynie Martz, and caregivers, Sarah Bennett and Shirley Hagerman for the care they provided as Ray went through this journey to join other loved ones who preceded him.
