Polly (Howdyshell) Hise
Polly (Howdyshell) Hise, 84, of Mount Solon, went home to be with her Lord on Tuesday, February 3, 2026.
Polly was born in Mount Solon, Virginia on February 11, 1941 to Carl and Ressie Howdyshell. She was a twin of Molly (Howdyshell) Emmett and one of ten siblings, all of whom preceded her in death.
She is survived by Ray Willis Hise, her husband of sixty-eight years. Polly and Ray were married May 24, 1958. She is survived by their three sons, Mike Hise, Jeff Hise and spouse Terrie and Chris Hise and spouse Chrissy; ten grandchildren, Meghan Hise and her significant other, James Bradley, Colton Hise, Jessica Hise, Heather Hise Gira and her husband, Matt, Porsche Hise Hoover and her husband, Justin, Brandie Hise, Jeffery Hise, Jeramiah Hise, CJ Hise and significant other, Jenna Randall and Cassie Hise. She has five great grandchildren, Payton Banks, Adeline Hise, Holland Hise, Haven Hise, and Layla Hoover. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins.
She built this family with Ray "Fritzy, Pappy" who always bragged about Polly's "Queen, Jigs" cooking. Her meals were renowned and oftentimes many family and friends sat around their table. They worked hard and enjoyed life. They enjoyed yearly summer trips to the Outer Banks. Polly also loved Elvis. She had a long and fruitful life.
Polly was a woman of faith who loved her family and friends fiercely. She was a member of Emmanuel Church of the Brethren in Mount Solon. She reflected God's unconditional love to everyone she met. Never meeting a stranger, her warm laugh and contagious smile and mostly her caring heart will be missed by many. In her Bible, Matthew 25:21 was handwritten in the cover: "well done, good and faithful servant".
Family and friends will be received from 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM on Friday, February 6, 2026 at Johnson Funeral & Cremation Service in Bridgewater.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, February 7, 2026 at 11:00 AM at Emmanual Church of the Brethren in Mount Solon. Burial will be private. A fellowship meal will follow.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contribibutions may be made to Emmanuel Church of the Brethren, or the Mt. Solon Fire & Rescue.
