Philip "Amos" Orndorff
Philip Author “Amos” Orndorff, Jr., 84, of Strasburg, VA passed away Saturday, August 17, 2024, at The Maynard in Strasburg, VA.
Amos was born in Strasburg, VA on January 4, 1940, a son of the late Philip Author and Maggie Mae Good Orndorff, Sr. He was a member of the Strasburg Presbyterian Church and worked as a newspaper distributor for the Northern Virginia Daily for many years. Amos loved hunting mushrooms, digging ginseng, was an avid gardener, enjoyed the Shenandoah County Fair, never met a stranger, and always enjoyed a good yard party. His greatest joy of his life was his grandchildren whom he adored. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Patricia Louise Ferguson Orndorff and siblings Curtis Lake, Jerry Orndorff, Jack Orndorff, and Robert Orndorff.
Survivors include his children Deborah Nanney (Shane) of OH, Philip Andrew Orndorff (Teresa) of Maurertown, VA, and Melissa A. Truban (Tom) of Woodstock, VA; his grandchildren Maggie Nanney (Jess Herling), Ian Nanney, Kaleb Orndorff (Jennifer), Ashley Beaune (Michael), Rachel Truban (Jackson), Stephen Truban, Rebecca Truban, Benjamin Truban (Lexi), and Anna Truban; his great grandchildren Levi Beaune, Bennett Beaune, Kyan Beaune, Ashlyn Stout, Theo Orndorff, Josephine Snarr, and Leo Snarr; a special nephew William Orndorff along with several other nephews, nieces, and cousins.
A celebration of life service for Mr. Orndorff will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 24, 2024, at the Strasburg Presbyterian Church with Rev. David Howard officiating. Burial will follow in St. Matthews Lutheran Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church on Friday evening from 6-8 p.m.
Active pallbearers will be Ian Nanney, Kaleb Orndorff, Stephen Truban, Benjamin Truban, Michael Beaune, and Jackson Snarr.
Honorary pallbearers will be Maggie Nanney, Rachel Truban, Pippy Truban, Ashley Beaune, Anna Truban, Jess Herling, Jennifer Orndorff, and Lexi Keller.
The family would like to offer a special gratitude of thanks to the staff of The Maynard in Strasburg for the compassionate care given to Amos during his time there.
