Penny Lynn Hockman of Grottoes, age 54, met her Savior, Jesus Christ, face to face on Thursday, October 3rd at her Holly home. Penny is the daughter of Paul Nelson Hockman and the late Patsy Ryman Hockman of Woodstock. In addition to her father, Penny is survived by her precious companion poodle, Angel; honorary Parents, Henry D. and Janet W. Elsea of Grottoes; a sister Paula R. Stiefel; brother, Phillip R. Hockman; special Uncle and Aunt, Carroll and Jo Ann Hockman; nieces Sydney and Bridgett Stiefel all of Woodstock. Honorary "Ampa" to, Hannah Elsea, Lillian Elsea, Saoirse Elsea and Robert Elsea of Bridgewater as well as Jacob Phillips of Charlotte NC, Levi Phillips of Oak Island, NC, Blake and Luke Childress both currently deployed as Soldiers of the U.S. Army.
She was an active member of Barren Ridge Covenant Brethren Church, serving as Deacon and as a member of the Church Board. Penny was deeply loved and appreciated by everyone who knew her. Her baking and acts of service were renowned. Even as Penny suffered for many years with a painful disability, an earlier bout with cancer and then four years of leukemia, she never stopped for a moment. She continued to bake and cook for every meal at church and every Sunday for early services. She continued to faithfully attend church services and Bible study until she was bedfast.
Penny was also well known and loved for her cooking, baking and self-less service in her former home in Woodstock.
There is no way to express the depth of love and devotion we all felt for her. Her only desire for all she knew was that they would commit their lives to Jesus Christ as she did. Her life was lived for Him.
