Paul Simroth
Paul Alan Simroth, 61, of Charlottesville, VA, passed away on December 11, 2025. Born on May 6, 1964, in Charleston, WV, he was the son of the late Donald Wayne and Nancy Carolyn Simroth. Paul was a graduate of George Washington High School in Charleston.
Awarded an ROTC scholarship, Paul attended Virginia Military Institute (VMI) in Lexington, VA, graduating in 1986 with a B.S. degree in Civil Engineering and a minor in History. Upon graduation, Paul was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the US Army Aviation Branch. He earned his Air Assault wings and graduated from the Rotary Wing Qualification Course, followed by the AH-1 Cobra Attack Helicopter Qualification. Paul subsequently became qualified to fly multiple helicopter models. He served as an Aviation officer in the Army, rising to the rank of Captain. His service took him across the globe, including deployments for Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm.
Following his active duty, Paul transitioned to the private sector. He worked as a production manager for Engelhard in Louisville, KY; as a management consultant for DeWolff, Boberg, & Associates; and as assistant plant manager for AccuTec in Verona, VA. In 2024, due to declining health, he moved to a health care facility in Charlottesville, VA.
Paul was preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Nancy Simroth.
He is survived by his brothers and sisters: David Simroth of Crozet, VA, Karen Simroth James of Afton, VA, Steven Simroth (Laura) of Hillsborough, NJ, and Kathleen Dergis (Mike) of Ann Arbor, MI; and their children: Katherine James, Emily Simroth, Rachel Simroth, B Dergis, and Caroline Dergis.
Burial service with military honors will be at 2 pm on December 26, 2025, at Culpeper National Cemetery in Culpeper, VA.
The family extends their deepest gratitude to the wonderful doctors and nurses at the UVA Hospital in Charlottesville for their expert and compassionate care during Paul’s final weeks.
