Opal Lee Ringgold

May 30, 1943 - May 23, 2024

Opal Lee Ringgold, 80, of Harrisonburg, passed away Thursday, May 23, at Virginia Mennonite Retirement Community.

Opal was born in Franklin, West Virginia on May 30, 1943, and was a daughter of the late Emory Lloyd and Virginia (Bryan) Simmons.

She graduated from Franklin High School in 1962. Before retiring she worked for Rocco, Schewels, and Town & Country. Beyond her professional life, Opal was a loving mother and a proud grandmother. She also enjoyed flower gardening, yard sales, and spending time with her friends and family. She was a member of Harrisonburg First Assembly of God.

Opal is survived by a granddaughter, Jamie Ensley, and husband Logan Armentrout; sisters, Darlene Simmons, Sandra Peck, Juanita (Roger) Burger, Bonnie (Jerry) Hubart; numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by daughter, Sonya Ensley; sister, Linda Simmons; brothers, Donnie Simmons, Loren Simmons, and Lester Simmons, and by Kenneth Ringgold.

A graveside service celebrating Opal's life will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, June 1st at Dayton Cemetery with Rev. Jeffrey Ferguson officiating. Following the graveside, a memorial service will be held at 2:30 PM at First Assembly of God in Harrisonburg. The family will receive friends following the memorial service.
