Ola Lee Hannah Hively
Ola Lee Hannah Hively, 96, of Bridgewater, passed away on Sunday, May 26, 2024 at the Bridgewater Retirement Community.
Ola was born on February 17, 1928 on Elk Mountain near Marlinton, WV. She was the daughter of the late Ola Mamie (Tyler) and Veo Price Hannah.
Following graduation from Marlinton High School in WV, Ola worked two years at the Institute of Living in Hartford, Connecticut. She returned to Virginia and was united in marriage to her high school sweetheart at the Bridgewater Presbyterian Church on December 14, 1948. David and Ola were members of the Bridgewater Presbyterian Church until 1988, and later members of the Mossy Creek Presbyterian Church until their deaths. Ola spent almost 73 years with her beloved David raising their family in the home David built near Bridgewater. She was a homemaker and worked briefly at Metro Pants factory in Bridgewater, followed by her life's work in the pediatrics unit at Rockingham Memorial Hospital until retirement. Ola enjoyed her vegetable and flower gardens, bible studies and activities with the ladies of Mossy Creek Church and traveling with family. Her favorite trip was to Ireland in 1996 and she was proud of her Scotch-Irish heritage and notorious for her sense of humor. She loved entertaining her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and visiting friends and relatives on any occasion and as often as possible. Ola's family spent many enjoyable holidays, summer vacations and winter ski trips on her parent's farm in West Virginia near the Snowshoe Resort.
Ola is survived by two sons, Steve Hively (Debbie) of Savannah, GA and Chris Hively (Jennie) of Culpeper, VA; and a daughter, Miriam H. Cobb (John) of Columbia, SC. Ola loved six grandchildren; Chris Cobb, Christina Pierstorff, Kent Hively, Katie Lane, Jessica Ballenger and David Howard Hively; fourteen great-grandchildren; a sister, Evelene Hannah Curry of Lewisburg, WV and a niece, Raye Hannah Guy of Blacksburg, VA.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry David; two brothers, Kent and Ray Hannah; and her grandson, David Howard Hively.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, June 8, 2024 at the Lantz Chapel of Bridgewater Retirement Community with Chaplain Russ Barb officiating.
