Naomi Finney Johnson
Naomi Finney Johnson, 89 years old, passed away Friday, May 3,2024 peacefully at her home in
Waynesboro, VA, after suffering from dementia for past few years. She was born April24, 1935 in
Charleston, WV to the late Clem and Gladys Finney. She moved from Charleston, WV to Aiken, SC
a couple of years after graduating from high school.
Naomi is survived by her husband of 66years Scott Johnson Sr. whom she married September
7, 1957 at the First Baptist Church in Aiken, SC. Naomi was very athletic and loved to play tennis,
golf, bowl, and also loved playing bridge with her many close friends. She really enjoyed spending
time with her family especially at their family beach house in Corolla, NC and their farmhouse in
Windsor, SC. She loved to travel with her husband and close friends. Naomi had a great
personality and developed many lasting friends in the many places they lived while being
transferred for her husband’s job. They lived in Camden, SC, Wilmington, DE, Richmond, VA, Ilion,
NY, and finally settling in Waynesboro, VA.
Naomi is also survived by her four children and their spouses - sons, Scott Johnson Jr. and his
wife, Connie; Jeff Johnson and his wife, Dawn; Kyle Johnson and his wife, Robin; and a daughter
Kim Tomaras and her husband, Terry. Eight grandchildren Garrett Johnson and his wife,
Chelsey; Kate Flint and her husband, Stephen; Evan Johnson; Emily Johnson; Preston Johnson and
his fiancé, Kenzie Casal; Kristin Johnson and her fiancé, Jordan Parrott; Jacob Johnson; and
Cameron Robertson. And four great grandchildren Beau, Crawford, and Bennett Flint and
Camila Johnson. Also special brother-in-law, Jim Ross. She had many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Clem Finney Jr.; Woodrow
Finney; Randall Finney; Dale Finney; Conrad Finney; and sisters, Vauna Murray; Anna Murphy; Dot
Casto; and Carol Ross.
The family would Like to express a very special thank you to Naomi’s personal caregiver, Jamice
Dickerson for all the loving care she gave Naomi. The family would also like to express their sincere
appreciation to Augusta Health Hospice of the Shenandoah staff for their care. In lieu of flowers,
please make a memorial donation in Naomi’s memory to the Augusta Health Hospice of the
Shenandoah.
Friends will be received from 2 pm until 5 pm at her residence of 810 Gwynne Avenue, Waynesboro, VA 22980.
