Mildred Louise Rigney

February 23, 1934 - June 5, 2024

Mildred Louise Rigney, age 90, of Bridgewater, passed away peacefully at home on June 5, 2024, and was surrounded by her loving family throughout her last days. Mildred, daughter of the late Wes Armstrong and Maude Simmons, was born February 23, 1934, in Doe Hill, VA. She spent 64 wonderful years with her husband, Doyle Franklin Rigney, until his passing in 2014.

Mildred worked for the United States federal government from age 17 until her retirement in 1989, when she received the Meritorious Civilian Service Award for outstanding service throughout her career. She delighted in being able to retire to the Shenandoah Valley and embraced life in the home she and Doyle designed and built together. Mildred was an active member of the Sangerville Church of the Brethren and the Sangerville-Towers Ruritan Club of which she was a member for over 34 years. She and Doyle enjoyed traveling throughout the country in their RV and spent many winters on their property at Willow Lakes RV Resort in Mims, Florida. Mildred was a devoted mother and grandmother, and her greatest joy was being surrounded by and caring for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren whom she loved dearly.

In addition to her parents and husband, Mildred was preceded in death by son, Roger Lee Rigney; all 10 of her brothers and sisters; and twin great-grandbabies, Rylynn Grace and Brantley Alan Rigney.

Mildred is survived by son, Dana Franklin Rigney (Terry Hameline) of Orlando, FL; son, Jeffery Dean Rigney (Sharion) of Bridgewater; and daughter-in-law, Gerri Garber Rigney of Bridgewater. She is also survived by five grandchildren, Christina Rigney Myers (Travis); Heather Rigney Wilharm (Bobby); Willy Holgate; Joshua Rigney (Ashley); and Jordan Rigney (Amber Price); seven great-grandchildren, Emma Grace, Ava Claire and Carter Brett Myers; Reese Nicole and Mackenzie Rae Wilharm; Greyson William Holgate; and Kohen Alan Rigney.

Serving as pallbearers are Willy Holgate, Joshua Rigney, Jordan Rigney, Travis Myers, Bobby Wilharm and Terry Hameline. Honorary pallbearers are members of the Sangerville-Towers Ruritan Club.

The family will receive friends from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM and from 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM on Friday, June 7, 2024 at Johnson Funeral Service in Bridgewater, or anytime at her home.
