Mildred Ione (Glasgow) Rose

October 22, 1926 - September 23, 2024

Mildred (Glasgow) Rose, 97, widow of Winfield Penny Rose, of Stuarts Draft, Virginia, passed away on Monday, September 23, 2024 at The Meadows. 
Mrs. Rose was born in Halifax County, North Carolina on October 22, 1926 to the late Santa Clause Glasgow and Elizabeth (Cooper) Glasgow. 
She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Mildred was affectionately known as "Mickie", by her many friends and was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. 
Before her marriage, Mildred trained and studied nursing and served in the U.S. Cadet Nursing Corps until the end of WWII in 1945. Afterwards, she continued as an R.N. and helped care for children stricken by polio. 
Following her marriage to Winfield P. Rose, she was active as a mother of two boys. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Greensboro, from 1955 until 2012, when she moved to Virginia to be closer to family. She served as a volunteer in the Sunday School program and women's circle groups. She also delivered for Meals-on-Wheels. Mickie had a great faith in God that she shared with others and it impacted many. She was fun to be around and had a great sense of humor and a very loving heart. 
In addition to her husband of 71 years, Mrs. Rose was preceded in death by two sisters and seven brothers.
Surviving, are two sons, Dan W. Rose and his wife, Shan of Soddy Daisy, TN and Steve M. Rose and his wife, Valerie of Waynesboro, Virginia; four grandchildren, Heather Gingerich and her husband, Anthony, Leah Harris and her husband, Jeremy, Sandy Rose and his wife, Sarah, and Lacey Arocha and her husband, Cesar; and twelve great-grandchildren, Josiah, Courtney, Conner, Grayson, Gabriel, Camden, Owen, Koli, Nathaniel, Kasynn, Knoxen, and Kaplan. 
A celebration of life will be held at a later date at a location to be determined.
Burial will also be held at a later date at Old Chapel Hill Cemetery in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. 
Service arrangements will be announced when provided.
Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory, 230 Frontier Drive, Staunton is in charge of her arrangements.
