Michael G. Stone

It is with great sorrow that we announce Michael Garret Stone passed away on Friday, August 9, 2024, at the age of 29 in Staunton, Virginia, where he had lived for the last several years. He was born to Michael Leroy Stone and Anne Elizabeth Tinsdale on July 25, 1995, in the town of Warrenton, Virginia.Michael was a graduate of Wakefield Country Day School in Huntly, Virginia where he was a member of the varsity soccer team and varsity basketball teams. He excelled in his studies, and attended West Virginia University on an academic scholarship.A consummate hard worker, Michael found a great passion in craft beer. He studied and labored to become a Certified Cicerone while working at a brewery in Haymarket, Virginia. He was poised to take the exam to become Master Cicerone when a car accident set his life onto a drastically different path.Per usual, he beat the odds and learned to walk, talk and persevered as doctors never believed he could. Michael’s life was inevitably changed due to a traumatic brain injury, but he never let it define him.Animals (dogs in particular), history, language and loved ones were the things Michael immersed himself in. He spent many hours training his loved companion, Bruno. He could cite almost any history fact with only a millisecond of consideration. He was fluent in English (his native tongue), Spanish and spoke a considerable amount of German and Dutch. He was the bright light in the lives of all he knew - family, friends and just about anyone he met. He never knew a stranger and was likely to reach out to talk with and assist just about anyone he encountered.Michael was known for his benevolence, humor, bravery and incredible strength of character. He was always reaching for the stars while lifting up those around him.Michael was preceded in death by his father, Michael Leroy Stone. He is survived by his mother Anne (Beth); his two sisters, Briana and Kristina; and three brothers, Atis, Brian and Blaine; as well as a multitude of aunts, uncles, cousins and nieces.Services to honor Michael’s life will be held on Sunday, August 18th, 2024, at 2:00 PM at Henry Funeral Home in Staunton, Virginia.
