Matthew Thomas
Matthew Thomas Obituary
Matthew Ryan Thomas, 39, of Waynesboro, Virginia, passed away on the evening of Wednesday July 3, 2024 after courageously battling a series of health complications. He was comforted by close friends and family.
Matt was born July 20, 1984, the youngest of four and the only son of the late Keith Thomas and his ever resilient, surviving mother, Deborah Kidd of Stuarts Draft. Matthew leaves behind three older sisters, Lori Sclater, Julia Thomas and Megan Thomas Wilfong, along with four nieces, one nephew, and a great niece.
Matthew is a kind and compassionate man whose desire to help and protect could only be matched by his love to share laughter. Friends spoke of Matt as unique, quirky and hilariously predictable. He was described as a conundrum because he was so selfish, conceited, and annoying. And he was completely spoiled rotten yet never a threat, a truly jovial spirit who constantly made you laugh. One felt like they had to give in to a person like him, allowing a pass from most everyone. He always had a kind word or gesture to share. Be it a big hug, a stiff finger under the chin, or a chop to the neck. Matt often found his way to show he cared.
Fully embracing “What can brown do for you,” Matt dedicated over 16 years driving for UPS. He took pride in serving his community and forging lasting bonds. This carried over socially, as he could easily be found at the local watering holes around town, happily announcing his arrival and departure via revving the engine of his favorite ride. Be it car or motorcycle, Matt embodied that open road, wind in the hair feeling (we all understood the priority he placed on that gorgeous head of his).
This good hearted devotion easily flowed over into the love he had for his fur babies “Toka” and “Viktor” he frequently took them on walks, playing fetch, and sharing their antics. Matt carried the joy of fun with family onto the golf course. Frequently showcasing his competitive side and creating lasting memories with his father; Matthews’s biggest ally and closest confidant. Additional support, protection, and at various times torture, could be witnessed in the sibling hood shared with his three big sisters. Whom Matt held close and individualized bonds. Yet all agree Matt and Dad are reunited on the greens, enjoying the perfect round.
He was truly a loving son, brother, and friend whose presence will be missed.
Family will receive visitation on Wednesday July 24th from 6-8 PM at the home shared with his mother, which is located at 65 Ridgeview Drive Stuarts Draft, VA 24477
