Mary Frances Will Koontz

Mary Frances Will Koontz, 92, of Dayton died on Friday, June 28, 2024 at White Birch Estates.

Mrs. Koontz was born in Woodstock, VA and was the daughter of the late Melvin G., Sr. and Edna Landis Will.

She graduated from Madison College, now JMU, in 1953. While there, she was a member of Sigma Phi Lambda and Kappa Delta Pi honor societies and Sigma Sigma Sigma sorority. She taught school in Arlington, Harrisonburg, and Rockingham County for a total of 26 years. She was a member of Dayton United Methodist Church. She was a devoted wife, mother and homemaker. She enjoyed baking and sewing and was a leader of Dayton 4-H.

On April 17, 1954 she married Robert Lee Koontz who preceded her in death on May 23, 2013.

Surviving are three daughters, Phyllis Maria Reeves and husband Kenneth of Broadway, Patricia Jane Hopkins and husband Kyle of Elkton, Janice Lee Callendar and husband Bill of Bridgewater; one son, Robert Lynn Koontz and wife Kim of Dayton; a brother, N. Paige Will of Dayton; a sister, Jane E. Remson of Broadway; fourteen grandchildren; twenty six great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Melvin Will, Jr. and James L. Will.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, July 8, 2024 at Eastlawn Memorial Gardens with Frank Will officiating. Following the service, the family will receive friends at 1:00 PM at Dayton United Methodist Church.

The family would like to thank the staff of White Birch and Sentara RMH Hospice for their care.
