Margie "Marge" Jane (Fitzgerald) Houser

December 4, 1934 - April 10, 2025

Margie Jane “Marge” (Fitzgerald) Houser, 90, widow of Erskine Lee Houser, of Staunton, passed away on Thursday, April 10, 2025 at the Shenandoah Hospice House in Fishersville.
Mrs. Houser was born in Greenville, Virginia on December 4, 1934, daughter of the late Golden and Ruth (Layton) Fitzgerald.
Margie was a lifelong member of Third Presbyterian Church. A proud valedictorian of her graduating class, she remained actively involved in planning class reunions over the years. Though a homemaker at heart, Mrs. Houser also worked part-time at JoAnn Fabrics and Sidney’s Dress Shop, later retiring from Planters Bank, where she served as a teller.
Margie was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She had a passion for bowling and was honored with the sportsmanship award multiple times. She especially cherished time spent with her family at the beach—most recently in 2024. She loved reading, was a dedicated NCAA basketball enthusiast, and a loyal Washington Redskins fan. One of her greatest joys was attending her grandchildren’s sporting events and gathering with loved ones for family celebrations.
In addition to her parents and husband of fifty-eight years, Mrs. Houser was preceded in death by five brothers, Wallace Fitzgerald, Alton Fitzgerald, Wilbur Fitzgerald, Elvin Fitzgerald, and Ernest Fitzgerald; and three sisters, Sibyl Coyner, Bertha McClung, and Eva Hamilton.
Surviving, is a daughter, Donna Lee (Houser) Snyder and her fiancé, Jeff Garza of Staunton; two sons, Darryl Erskine Houser and his wife, Debbie Earman of Moneta and Ronald N. Houser of Staunton; five grandchildren, Megan Lindsay Kincheloe and her husband, Chris of Staunton, Abby Jo Houser (Mike Ribeiro), Andrea Jane (Houser) Dameron and her husband, Brian of Rockville, Daniel Erskine Houser (Elizabeth Mawyer) of Staunton, and Ashley Marie Houser (Shawn Wallace) of Stuarts Draft; three great-granddaughters, Graycie Evans Kincheloe, Corinne Maye Dameron, and Olive Penelope Anne Wallace; two great-grandsons, Taven Erskine Houser and Colt Erskine Kincheloe; three sisters, Doris “Gin” Sweet, Betty Ruth Thacker, and Rebecca “Jodie” Truxell (Carlton); and a number of nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, April 18, 2025 at Third Presbyterian Church by Pastor Jacob Singleton.
The family will receive friends following the service.
Burial will be private in Augusta Memorial Park by Chaplain Stephen Henderson.
Active pallbearers will be Daniel Houser, Brian Dameron, Chris Kincheloe, Shawn Wallace, Wayne McClung, Eric Wright, Alan Sweet, and Jimmy Truxell.
Honorary pallbearers will be grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
It is suggested that those desiring make memorial contributions to Third Presbyterian Church, 1313 Barterbrook Road, Staunton, VA 24401.
The family would like to express a sincere “Thank you” to the nurses at the Shenandoah Hospice House, Dr. Heck, Chaplain Stephen Henderson, and the staff at The Legacy at North Augusta for their loving care.
