Major Gary Cubbage

November 10, 1961 - June 30, 2024

Major Gary Cubbage (RET), 62, of Bridgewater, passed away in his home with his loved ones on Sunday, June 30th, 2024.

He was born on November 10th, 1961 in Luray, Virginia and was the youngest son of the late Ralph James "Buster" Cubbage and Betty Jane (Manuel) Cubbage, who both preceded him in death.

Gary graduated from Bridgewater College in 1984 and pursued a career in the United States Marine Corps as a Field Artillery Officer, earning more than 35 decorations and awards from his nearly 25 years of military service. Gary continued serving his country as an employee of the Department of State and filled many roles during his 18-year tenure including working to implement the SPEAR Program, improve Anti-Terrorism tactics, and Diplomatic Security. He worked in and traveled to 42 countries throughout his career.

Gary was united in marriage to Nona (Hosaflook) Cubbage.

Surviving in addition to his wife are his children, Jonathan, Anna, Drew, Ciaran, and Cameron; a brother, Ralph (Robin) Cubbage; three sisters, Phyllis Hammer, Linda Painter, and Deborah (John) Knauff; and numerous nieces and nephews. His father-in-law, Dewitte Hosaflook, also survives.

A service celebrating Gary's life will be held on Sunday, July 7, 2024 at Hawksbill Recreation Park in Stanley, Virginia at 1:00 PM.
