Larry Denton Meadows

Larry D. Meadows, 82, of Stuarts Draft was reunited with his dachshund, George, when

he received his angel wings on October 14, 2024.

He was born on May 19, 1942, to the late David Vernon and Lena Taylor Meadows. He

was preceded in death by his eldest son, Timmy Meadows, and his youngest son,

Michael Meadows, in addition to 5 sisters and 7 brothers.

He married the love of his life, Carolyn Shifflett Meadows, 65 years ago. She survives

and resides in Stuarts Draft. They went on to build their life with 5 amazing children:

Timmy (deceased) and wife Tina of Waynesboro, Larry Jr “Denny” of Sherando, Debbie

and husband Barry Hensley of New Hope, Brian of Waynesboro and Mike of Sherando

(deceased). Surviving siblings are Wanda Hogan and husband Robert along with

brother Page Meadows.

He was a painter by trade and enjoyed many years as owner/operator of Larry

Meadows Painting, where he lovingly became known by his crew as Poppa Smurf.

He enjoyed hunting, Nascar, and glamping. He was proud of his kids, but they paled in

comparison to his grandchildren—Timmy, Amanda, Brandon, Kristin, Bethany, David,

Jacob, and Isaiah. Later in life his greatest joy came from his great grandchildren,

Jocelynn, Cullen, Dakota, Grayson, Kendall, Brookelyn and Rowan.

Arrangements are being handled by Johnson Funeral Service in Grottoes and are as

follows: the family will receive friends on Thursday, October 17, from 6 pm to 7 pm at

Johnson Funeral Service located at 201 Dogwood Avenue, Grottoes, VA 24441. Burial

will follow at 3 PM on Friday, October 18th, at Jollett Cemetary in Elkton, VA.
