Kenneth Humphreys

April 11, 1938 - August 24, 2024

Kenneth Martin Humphreys, 86, of Madrid Rd., Waynesboro, peacefully passed away on Saturday, August 24, 2024 at his home surrounded by his loving wife and family. He was born in Waynesboro on April 11, 1938, son of the late Catherine and William J. Humphreys.

Kenneth graduated from Wilson Memorial High School in 1955, attended Dunsmore Business School, and proudly served in the United States Army Reserves. While working as a supervisor with G.E./GENICOM, he also owned and operated a beef and poultry farm.

In his retirement, he drove a school bus for 11 years, sharing his love, wisdom and kindness with many of the students on his route. He was an active member of Fishersville United Methodist Church where he participated in the choir and served as a board member.

He cherished his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, all of whom trust in Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior.

Kenneth loved family vacations and road trips, including annual camping with church friends and children at Douthat State Park and beach trips with family and the “Myrtle Beach Gang.” Most of all, he loved Thanksgiving and Christmas with all his family. As an avid sports enthusiast, he coached little league baseball and basketball, and made it a priority to attend sporting events for his children and grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, William J. Humphreys of Waynesboro; three sisters: Nancy H. Downey of Staunton, Catherine “Kitty” Lockridge of Staunton, and Jo Sanger Burnett of Staunton; two brothers-in-law, Joseph Downey and Max Lockridge; one sister-in-law, Pat Eagle of Waynesboro.

Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife of 65 years, Nancy Burkholder Humphreys; children: Kevin M. Humphreys (Brenda), Karen H. Rowland (Jeff) , Sharon Humphreys, and Lori H. Salmon (John); grandchildren: Mari H. Brittingham (J.T), Parks Humphreys (Hannah), Emory Rowland (Amelia), Anna Salmon, Olivia R. Campagna (Nick), Matt Salmon (Payton) and Cate Salmon; four great grandchildren with a fifth on the way; sisters-in-law, Kathy Humphreys and Linda Faistenhammer; as well as numerous nieces and nephews; special neighbors, Brenda and Ed Taylor.
