Junior George
Junior Eston George, age 95 of Petersburg, WV passed away on Monday, November 13, 2023 at Grant Rehabilitation and Care Center in Petersburg, WV.
Junior was born on July 8, 1928 in Petersburg, WV and was married on July 8, 1949 to Loretta “Betty” Simmons George who passed away on November 6, 1998.
Junior was a son of the late Pearl Eston George and Ella Katherine (Kuykendall) George. He was the 5th born of 9 children and is preceded in death by 1 sister, Evelyn Self and 5 brothers, James George, Sr., Ernest “Satchel” George, Harold George Sr., Clifton “Joe” George and Merlin “Midge” George.
Junior is survived by two daughters, Barbara George and Linda Hedrick (Harlan) all of Petersburg, WV. 4 grandchildren, Jason Ratcliff, Jennifer Leatherman, Bethany Whetzel (Jared) and Shawn Hedrick (Ashlee) and 11 great grandchildren. Also surviving are 2 brothers Donald George and Otha “Oce” George both of Petersburg, WV.
Junior was drafted in the Army on October 22, 1952 at the age of 24. He was a Corporal in the Korean War and fought at Pork Chop Hill. The Medals he received were United Nations Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Korean Service Medal with 2 Bronze Stars and Purple Heart. He was a life member of Petersburg VFW Post 6454 and Petersburg American Legion Post 78. Junior was a member of Petersburg First Baptist Church.
He retired from the Pepsi Cola Bottling Company in Petersburg. He did not remain retired, being a hard worker, he then worked for the Grant County Bank until reaching his mid 80’s.
The family would like to thank the staff at Grant Rehabilitation and Care Center for their care and compassion.
Funeral service will be Wednesday, November 15, 2023 at 2 PM in the chapel of Schaeffer Funeral Home in Petersburg with Pastor Frank Ketterman and Pastor Brian Henson officiating. Family will receive friends one hour prior to service.
Interment will be in Maple Hill Cemetery with Military Honors by Grant County Veterans Honor Guard and West Virginia Army Honor Guard.
