Junior Ernest Gilmer
Junior Ernest Gilmer, 96, widower of Kathleen Glover (Shiflet) Gilmer, of Cardinal Street in Staunton, passed away on Tuesday, April 2, 2024 at the Shenandoah Hospice House in Fishersville.
Mr. Gilmer was born in Augusta County, Virginia on June 14, 1927, son of the late Ernest Edgar Gilmer and Kelly Lilly (Moore) Gilmer.
Junior was a life-long member of Hebron Presbyterian Church and retired from Stanley Furniture as a final inspector. He was an avid gardener and enjoyed hunting.
In addition to his wife of 64 years, Mr. Gilmer was preceded in death by sisters, Helen Gilmer, Mabel Miller, Louise Harlow and Frances Gilmer and a brother John Gilmer.
Surviving siblings are brothers, George Gilmer and Warren Gilmer; a sister, Betty Piner; as well as a number of nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, April 8, 2024 at Oaklawn Mausoleum and Memory Gardens by Rev. Dr. Henry D. Scoggins. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the graveside.
The family wishes to thank Junior’s wonderful neighbors, the “lunch bunch” and employees of the Greenville Avenue Burger King who added so much joy to his daily life. The family also wishes to thank Dr. Marsh and staff, Augusta Health staff, and Shenandoah Hospice House staff for their excellent care of Junior.
Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory, 230 Frontier Drive in Staunton is in charge of his arrangements.
