Josephine Lewis (Lemon) Stewart
Josephine Lewis (Lemon) Stewart, 86, widow of Eugene Stewart, of Staunton, passed away on Monday, July 22, 2024 at the Shenandoah Hospice House in Fishersville.Â
Mrs. Stewart was born in Staunton, Virginia on June 5, 1938, a daughter of the late Walter Lemon and Mary Alice (Galloway) Lemon.
Josephine was a cherished member of Mt. Salem Baptist Church and retired in 1991 after over 30 dedicated years of service at Western State Hospital. She took great joy in cooking, caring for her home, and mentoring those around her.
In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Stewart was preceded in death by a son, Eliza Tyrone Stewart; a daughter, Carrie (Stewart) Garcia; two brothers, Donald Lemon and Gene Lemon; and two sisters, Mary Wallace and Patsy Rivera.
She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.Â
Surviving, are two daughters, Brenda Stewart and Victoria Stewart-Whitlock; five grandchildren, Lester Dallas Stewart, Richard Stewart, Erica Stewart, Omega Brickenbridge, and Athena Hall; many great-grandchildren; a nephew, Jamie Wallace; and two nieces, Shirley and Wendy Wallace.Â
A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, July 29, 2024 at Oaklawn Memory Gardens.
The family will receive friends following the service.Â
