Joseph Raymond Hiner
Joseph Raymond Hiner, 98, of Dayton, passed away on Sunday, September 8, 2024 at The Phoenix Harrisonburg.
He was born on July 6, 1926 and was a son of the late Charles and Annie (Eye) Hiner.
Joe was a dedicated teacher at Waterman Elementary School. He loved his students and maintained a relationship with many throughout the years. He was a member of Dayton United Methodist Church. He served his country in the US Army. Joe was a devoted NY Yankee fan and enjoyed gardening.
Joe was united in marriage on August 21, 1948 to Mary Hiner who preceded him in death on January 5, 2019.
He is survived by his children, Joseph Hiner, II, Michael Hiner & wife Kay, and Leslie Sites and husband Matthew; six grandchildren, Ben Hiner, Adam Hiner, Liz Brown, Rebecca Knight, Shane Sites, and Samantha Bruce; 11 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his daughter-in-law, Diane Hiner, and grandson, Jeremy Baugher.
A service celebrating Joe's life will be held on Wednesday, September 11, 2024 at 12:00 PM at Dayton United Methodist Church with Pastor Jenny Day and Rev. Steve Bird officiating. Burial will be at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, September 11, 2024 at Eastlawn Memorial Gardens w/ military rites by the Dayton American Legion Post #27.
The family will receive friends following the memorial service in the church fellowship hall.
