Joseph "Joe" Harmon Cox
Joseph Harmon “Joe” Cox, 91, widower of Patricia Lane (Kiser) Cox, of Staunton, passed away on Monday, March 16, 2026 at Augusta Health in Fishersville.
Mr. Cox was born in Augusta County, Virgina on January 17, 1935, a son of the late Benjamin Franklin Cox and Maggie Mae (Greaver) Cox.
Joseph was a veteran of the United States Marine Corp, a member of Spring Hill Presbyterian Church, and attended Buffalo Gap Presbyterian Church. He retired from the City of Staunton Transit Service after 30 years of service as school bus driver. For the final 12 years of his career, he served as Superintendent of Transit, Line and Signs. Following his retirement, he continued serving the community as a school bus driver for the Augusta County School System for an additional 21 years. In his spare time, Mr. Cox found joy in gardening flowers and playing with his grandson.
In addition to his parents and wife of 52 years, Mr. Cox was preceded in death by three brothers, Benny H. Cox, Raymond Cox, and Wallace G. Cox; his father-in-law, Albert A. Kiser; his mother-in-law, Rosie (Harris) Kiser; and a brother-in-law, Leroy Kiser and his wife, Barbara (Miller) Kiser.
Surviving, is a son, Anthony D. Cox and his wife, Becky of Mount Solon; a grandson, Christian Jacob Cox; two step-granddaughters, Mary (Campbell) Shindle and her husband, Chris and Heather Moats; a step-great-grandson, Ethan Shindle; a sister, Edith (Cox) Jackson; a sister-in-law, Shelby Kiser; special friend, Glenda Van Lear; best friend, Kenny Gordon; and a number of nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 19, 2026 at Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory and other times at his residence.
A celebration of life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, March 20, 2026 in the Coffman Funeral Home Chapel by Pastors Larry Strickler and Gwen Carr.
Burial will follow in Oaklawn Memory Gardens.
Active pallbearers will be Kenny Gordon, Jeff Kiser, Nathan Kiser, Tyler Crawford, Edward “Buster” Lovegrove, Michael Shipp, Chris Shindle, and Robert Lafferty.
It is suggested that those desiring make memorial contributions to Spring Hill Presbyterian Church, 4141 Spring Hill Road, Staunton, VA 24401.
Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory, 230 Frontier Drive in Staunton is in charge of his arrangements.
