John William Davis

February 24, 1964 - November 22, 2023

John W. Davis, 59, of Dayton, passed away unexpectedly early Wednesday morning, November 22, 2023.

John was the beloved son of Claude F. Davis and Anna Pearl, born February 24, 1964. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by brother C. Ray Davis and Aunt Amy M. Kiracofe. He is survived by wife Catherine (Kay) Davis, children George and Lori Majers, sister Betty Shreckhise and husband George Kemper, sister Brenda Davis Root and husband Bob, nieces Allyson Shreckhise and Jenn Root Martell and nephews Brad and Troy Davis.

He married his forever love and business partner on June 6, 1998. John and Kay were married for 25 years and during that time developed a very successful business in Weyers Cave. Classic Motorsports specializes in restomods and customizations of classics, customs, and hot rods.

While building client's dream cars, they established relationships with car enthusiasts that spanned the country and gained notable recognition for their work. Clients became part of the Classic family, drawn to John by his unrivaled expertise, honesty, kindness, and quality work. You know you can stop by at any time, the door is always open and the coffee is always on.

He was generous with his time and talent, giving to foundations that were near and dear to his heart which included veterans support, animal welfare, and special needs and at-risk youth.

John built a community wherever he went. With Kay he was an avid UVa baseball fan and enjoyed their season tickets and baseball family. They also loved attending performances of their favorite bands and would travel with friends to see them play. Every weekend was a new adventure!

He was blessed to love his work and his presence will be missed by all friends, family, colleagues, the Classic team, and clients. He embodied the sentiment that one of the best things that can be said about a person is they lived a life well-remembered.
