John "J" William Blackwell, Jr., 52, a beloved husband, father, pops, and brother, passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 7, 2026, at his residence in Swoope.He was born on December 2, 1973, in Waynesboro, a son of John William Blackwell, Sr. and the late Connie Denise Chittum Reider.J was a graduate of Robert E. Lee High School in Staunton and worked as a cold room operator for Shamrock Foods in Verona.J was a man of many hobbies and interests. Not only was he a diehard fan of the Chicago Bears and Superman - he also loved the outdoors. Whether it was hunting, fishing, camping, four wheeling or riding the roads on his motorcycle, as long as he was close to nature, he was ready to create cherished memories doing those activities. When not outside, J's competitive spirit was showcased in his love for gaming - especially Madden, Call of Duty, and Fallout. He was also known as a real trivia master who rarely met his equal. He was a remarkably talented self-taught artist who loved to draw and create incredible wood-working pieces of art, turning simple pieces of wood into detailed, one-of-a-kind works. His creativity and patience shone through every piece he crafted, leaving behind physical reminders of his talent and passion.In addition to his many interests, J was known for his playful, mischievous nature. As a massive prankster and jokester, he often brought laughter to those around him, while also possessing a soft heart and a humble, giving spirit. His caring nature extended to animals, with a special fondness for his dogs: Kameron, Romo, Keyvah, and his cherished granddog, Kratos.Family was truly at the heart of J's life. He was extremely family-oriented and deeply loved his wife, Debra, his children, and especially his beloved grandson, Dominik.In addition to his father and his loving wife, Debra Jean Blackwell, he is survived by his children, Nikolas Peyton Blackwell and Kristina Marie Callison and her husband, Clint; his grandson, Dominik Callison; his brothers, Chancy and Bobby Lee Blackwell; and his in-laws, Henry and Linda Strickler. He also leaves behind his special friend, Georgia Payne, as well as his honorary aunts, Jeannie Toney and Alice Huffman.In addition to his mother, he is preceded in death by a daughter, Kassandra "Kassi" Bliss Blackwell.A memorial gathering of family and friends to honor J's life will be held from 4:00 - 6:00 PM on Friday, February 13, 2026, at Henry Funeral Home in Staunton.
