John Thornton Williams
John Thornton Williams, Jr., 74, husband of Sandra Patricia (Gordon) Williams, of Staunton, passed away on Saturday, January 3, 2026 at his residence.
Mr. Williams was born in Staunton, Virginia on September 23, 1951, a son of Margaret Ann (Walker) Williams and the late John Thornton Williams, Sr.
John was a devoted member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church and proudly served in the United States Navy. After retiring as an electrician from the Woodrow Wilson Rehabilitation Center, he continued to stay busy doing what he loved most—helping others. John truly enjoyed life and was well known as a dependable “handyman,” always ready to lend a helping hand.
Surviving, in addition to his mother and his wife of 41 years, is a son, John Thornton Williams, III (Ashley) of Austell, GA; a daughter, Dianna Johnson and her husband, Eric of Staunton; two sisters, Sally Cooper of Staunton and Sandra (Williams) Blakemore and her husband, Mark of Chicago, IL; two sisters-in-law, Joyce Fisher and Teresa Crawford; a brother-in-law, Dwayne Witherspoon; five grandchildren, Diamond, Maurice, Jalen, Lyric, and Analyse; a special friend, Petty Fisher; and a number of nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, January 12, 2026 at Mt. Zion Baptist Church by Pastor Tampa Stuart. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
Burial will follow in Oaklawn Memory Gardens.
Active pallbearers will be Eric and Maurice Johnson, and his special friends, Preston Carter, Walter Lewis, Lee Ratcliff, and Derek Watts.
Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory, 230 Frontier Drive in Staunton is in charge of his arrangements.
